For high school students, I think extracurriculars are the MOST important part of a resume. Unless you are lucky enough to get a REALLY fantastic job in high school, your work history will contain mostly “mindless-labor” jobs. While these show a commitment to hard work, they’re not really indicative of leadership or relevant experience in a field tied to a college degree program.

Extracurriculars, on the other hand, are accessible to almost any high school student. There are so many options as well; students most likely will be able to find something that either gives them a leadership opportunity or lets them dive into the field they’re interested in.
